The telephone system has recently been deregulated and it appears that AT&T has been more effective in having its services available than Verizon, Sprint and others. You should check with your provider for coverage and rate information prior to coming to Costa Rica and also inquire about international roaming charges and data packages to avoid an unpleasant surprise at the end of your trip. When calling the United States from Costa Rica you must dial 001 and the area code, not 011.
