ISA Billabong World Surf Games
Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica
Day 5 & 6 Wrap Up
Su lloviendo gatos y perros....Its raining cats and dogs!
Wednesday, with the rain and the full moon the Pacific gave way to the most extreme and difficult conditions yet for the opening of the longboard competition. It was all about big boards, big waves and big surprises! Both American longboarders, Toni Silvagni and Steve Newton advanced to the second round of the competition propelling the US to be in a dead tie with Australia for 1st place, both with a combined score of 19,080 points. In second place is Hawaii followed by South Africa in 4th and in 5th is Costa Rica by only 350 combined points. At this point is is anyone's game! The biggest surprise of the day was land-locked Germany's Dieter Gerard winning both rounds beating out big surf nations, Brazil and Tahiti.
Thursday was another rainy day with torrential downpours and storms that forced the games to be delayed for 2 hours. But, the poor weather conditions did not stop team USA from advancing into first place. They have not held the World Game title since 1995! Team Hawaii move into second place while the Australian fell from fist to third.

Tomorrow is a new with the competition really heating up! The women's competition is down to 2 heats and the men's down to 5! Who will survive and move into the finals is anyone's guess in this big, unpredictable surf...it is a full moon after all!
Stay tuned...it's getting good!
